Born and raised in Glasgow, I come from a musical family on both sides. My mother is a classical pianist and my father Dave Wilson had one of the most well known Dixieland Jazz bands in Glasgow. I was brought up on a musical diet, mainly of the music of traditional Jazz Swing bands. My Uncle Brian is a Jazz Drummer and has the second largest Buddy Rich collection in the world (proven!). My brother Max is an established composer for Film, TV and Stage.
Music is my life. From a young age, I worked in my Dad’s Piano Tuning business during which time I tuned thousands of pianos around Glasgow. From my early teens I’ve played solo piano gigs in hotels and restaurants dotted around the city.
I went on to study Classical Music (London College of Music) at Edinburgh Napier University, and completed a BA degree with Honours in Jazz Performance at Middlesex University, where I studied Transcription and received a First. I’ve transcribed full jazz arrangements for up to eight players!
I am now based in London. When I am not transcribing, I teach piano, sing in Jazz bands and I am currently writing an album. I have held jazz gig residencies in Italy, Thailand, Glasgow and London.
